1. Message from the CCA Board

For applicants to the National Archival Development Program (NADP), if you
have not already provided the responses to the questions sent to you by the
CCA Secretariat, for your 2006-2007 recommended project(s), please do so at
your earliest opportunity. Thank you !

CCA and Library and Archives Canada (LAC) are finalizing the approvals and
budgets for the inaugural fiscal year of the NADP and we will notify all
Councils and institutions shortly about distribution of contribution
agreements and payments.

2. CCA - Preservation Committee

An addition has been made recently on the Committee's web page. Four
bulletins concerning archival enclosures have been added under the
"publications" category. Subjects treated are: paper records, photographic
media, and optical disc media. There is also a preservation glossary.
Committee member Rosaleen Hill, who is also the Coordinator of the British
Columbia Archival Preservation Service, wrote the texts on the photographic
media and the optical disc media, and she provided input to the other two.
The documents are offered in PDF format. It should also be noted that they
are also available on the web site of the Archives Association of British
Columbia.

Committee members Diane Haglund, Rosaleen Hill and Brian Thurgood will
present a session concerning preservation issues at the Annual Conference of
the Association of Canadian Archivists on Friday June 30th in St. John's.

 3. CCA - Canadian Committee on Archival Description
Toward a Second Edition of RAD: A Report

The Canadian Committee on Archival Description (CCAD) is pleased to present
Toward a Second Edition of RAD: A Report, now available at HYPERLINK
"http://www.cdncouncilarchives.ca/archdesreport.html"http://www.cdncouncilar
chives.ca/archdesreport.html.

Drawing from consultations held throughout 2004, the report reviews the
current Rules, addresses feedback received, and issues recommendations and
options for RAD's future. It is complemented by an Addendum written in the
beginning of this year explaining the status of the review and the next
steps to be undertaken by CCAD on behalf of the Canadian archival community.

As always, input from the community is of great importance to the
Committee. Please forward your comments to Isabelle-D. Alain at HYPERLINK

4. ARCHIVESCANADA.ca

On the first weekend of June, 3 - 4, HYPERLINK
"http://www.archivescanada.ca/"www.ARCHIVESCANADA.ca, through the
collaboration of the Grey Roots Museum & Archives, was profiled in the Doors
Open Owen Sound. Doors Open events says it all, they open the doors to some
of our most fascinating and intriguing heritage sites. An added bonus is
free admission. This event enables visitors to discover first-hand hidden
heritage treasures, and what better place than an archives. In total 1166
people made their way through the doors of Grey Roots Museum and Archives
over the two day period. Comments collected by the archival assistant were:
"Great pencil", "I'll be back soon to do some more research", "I heard you
had great resources, but I didn't know you had so many!", and the list goes
on.

We're certain that you have similar stories to tell, pass them along; it
will be our pleasure to profile them in our upcoming newsletters. Let us and
your colleagues know what you're doing. Information on your events and
initiatives can be sent via email to HYPERLINK

 5. AlouetteCanada Open Digitization Strategy Launched

Toronto, June 21, 2006 - Canada's strongest ties to its own history are
through the documents that have recorded it. It's time for Canada's history
to be accessed and preserved in a systematic, enduring way - one that is
accessible for Canadians - and other citizens of the world. AlouetteCanada
hopes to fill that role. Formed in November 2005 following a summit with
members of the library, archives and museum communities, the AlouetteCanada
Open Digitization Initiative will act in concert with the Canadian Digital
Information Strategy presently under development by Library and Archives
Canada.

Institutions and individuals are invited to come and play their own unique
part in developing our collective Canadian online memory. We would like to
hear from local history societies, archives organizations, genealogists and
others across the country. For more information and to read the complete
press released, please visit HYPERLINK
