Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the County of Elgin, I am pleased to announce that the grand opening of the Elgin County Archives will take place on Friday, November 8th. An official ceremony will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Elgin County Warden John R. Wilson will dedicate the facility. Elgin-Middlesex-London MP the Honourable Gar Knutson will then unveil a plaque acknowledging the Government of Canada's important financial contribution to this project through the Cultural Spaces Canada Program. MPP Steve Peters will also bring greetings on behalf of the Government of Ontario. Finally, we are extremely pleased to welcome Ms. Miriam McTiernan, Archivist of Ontario, who will bring greetings on behalf of the Archives of Ontario and the archival community. A public open house will then follow from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.

Regular hours of operation will commence Tuesday, November 12th and are as follows: Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m; Tuesday evenings 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. (by appointment). The archives is located at 450 Sunset Drive (Highway 4) due south of the St. Thomas city limits towards Port Stanley.

This project holds deep meaning to a number of people in the community. To quote Warden Wilson: "I am very proud of the way that current and past Councils have worked together to keep the vision of a county archives alive and to secure the financial resources necessary to carry this project to its completion."
