   As I mentioned yesterday, I made an inquiry to the New York Times
about this matter, and got a response this afternoon from a sports
editor:


"Dear Terry,

The information about Paul O'Neill's relationship to Mark Twain came
from
the New York Yankees. In fact, as of last season (this season's have not
arrived yet), the Yankees' media guide was still reporting that O'Neill
is
a direct descendant of Twain. It's the last line in the O'Neill's
biography.
