Caroline Di Cocco new Minister of Culture
The resignation of Gerard Kennedy from the Ontario Liberal caucus has
resulted in a mini Cabinet shuffle. Kennedy is expected to run for the
leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.
Three women MPPs have changed positions in Premier McGuinty's Cabinet.
Sandra Pupatello, MPP for Windsor West, replaces Kennedy as the new Minister
of Education and remains Minister Responsible for Women's Issues. Madeleine
Meilleur, MPP for Ottawa-Vanier, leaves the Minstry of Culture to become
both Minister of Community and Social Services, and Minister Responsible for
Ontarians with Disabilities. She also continues as Minister Responsible for
Francophone Affairs. Caroline Di Cocco, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton and the
Premier's Parliamentary Assistant, joins the Ontario Cabinet for the first
time to replace Minister Meilleur as Minister of Culture.
In a news release, Premier McGuinty said of Minister Di Cocco, "I
especially want to welcome Caroline to Cabinet. Typical of our caucus, she
works hard, she is dedicated to the people of Ontario, and she believes
passionately in the importance of public service, and she will do a
tremendous job."
After hearing the announcement OMA Executive Director, Marie Lalonde,
said, "we congratulate Minister Di Cocco on her appointment and look forward
to working with her for the benefit of Ontario's museum community. We know
Ms. Di Cocco as a strong supporter of culture and heritage from her years as
Culture critic and we welcome the knowledge and experience she brings to our
sector's issues."
