My own sense from reading about Austria and Germany 
of the 1920's and 1930's is that the general taxonomy of that 
time was a thee way division, between liberals, the right,  
and the left.  As time went on, the liberals were squeezed out  
and all but disappeared, leaving only the right and the left.
