I would like to add that the use of the image of the "hand" in order
to express the market mechanism is in Ferdinando Galiani (1751). More
in general, as underlined by Hirschman (1977), the concept of
invisible hand in order to express the mechanism of unintended
consequences of intentional actions is in Vico (1744).
