The University of Waterloo is currently developing a university-wide records
management program.

The University of Waterloo Library seeks a professional archivist or
librarian to select and appraise institutional records of archival value and
to ensure that the University has an efficient program for preserving its
historical records. 

The Archivist University Records, in consultation with the Head, Special
Collections and  the Archivist Special Collections, will be charged with the
responsibility of evaluating the current program and existing collection of
institutional records in the archives, and with making recommendations
regarding the future management and development of the archival program. 

Other specific expectations of this position will be to work with the
University Records Manager to develop retention schedules which ensure that
the institutional archival record, regardless of format, of the University
of Waterloo is acquired and preserved.  Secondly the Archivist  University
Records  will  review the current  textual  collection in the Archives and
as well make an assessment of paper records of potential  archival value
which are now located in offices and store rooms across campus and  ensure
that those of archival value are transferred to the archives and other
records disposed of as  appropriate. 

The candidate must be prepared to perform the whole range of archival tasks
from processing to planning, including moderate lifting.


Required Qualifications:
.	An MAS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent.

.	Demonstrated knowledge of the archives and records management field
with supporting experience and education, preferably in a university
setting, to ensure that the institutional archival record of the University
of Waterloo is acquired, preserved and made available according to
prevailing professional standards and subject to relevant policies,
procedures, and legislation, including Ontario's Freedom of Information and
Protection of Privacy Act and Rules for Archival Description.  
.	Demonstrated leadership and strong analytical and problem-solving
skills to address challenges and opportunities associated with evaluating
the current program and making recommendations concerning the future
management and development of the archival institutional records.  
.	Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a collegial
and collaborative manner.  
.	Some knowledge and experience of the control and organization of
records in a large institution is an asset. 
.	Moderate lifting required.


Salary: The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience
and academic/professional qualifications.
