This one-day workshop is a professional development learning opportunity to
focus on the distribution of art gallery publications.  It will serve as a
follow-up workshop for the In Print workshop held at Hart House, University of
Toronto in September of 2004. The workshop will be geared to mid-career and
senior gallery professionals and will feature publishers, distributors, and
retailers.  It is being designed to meet the skill development needs of art
galleries and other visual art professionals who want to know more about
distributing their catalogues, alternative publications and artist books.

Presenters Bios:

Lawrence Boyle is director and co-owner of ABC Art Books Canada / ABC Livres
d?art Canada Distribution. He holds an undergraduate degree from the
University of Ottawa and a graduate degree from the University of Bristol, both
in English literature. From 1983 to 1995 he was owner of Librairie l?Androgyne
in Montréal. In 1997 he founded, with Robert Lambert, ABC Art Books Canada
Distribution.

Xandra Eden is Assistant Curator for The Power Plant, Toronto where she curates
and organizes exhibitions and manages exhibition publications. Her recent
exhibitions include Republic of Love, The Power Plant, Toronto (2004); The Cave
and the Island, White Columns, New York and Galerie Kunstbuero, Vienna (2004);
Christian Jankowski: Rosa, Mercer Union, Toronto (2002); In Through the Out
Door: David Armstrong Six/Germaine Koh/Nestor Kruger, The Power Plant, Toronto
(2002) and Bellevue Art Museum, Washington (2003). Eden has also written essays
for many exhibitions, including catalogue essays for Marla Hlady (2001) and
Bounce/In Through the Out Door (2002). She has contributed to Artext, Border
Crossings, Canadian Art, Flash Art, Parachute and various other magazines. Eden
received her M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (1999)
and B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Purchase (1990).

Marc Glassman is a journalist, film programmer, documentary producer and veteran
bookseller. He is Editor in Chief of POV, Canada?s leading documentary and
indie film magazine, and of Montage, the magazine of the Directors Guild of
Canada. As a writer, Glassman has contributed to such magazines as Canadian
Screenwriter, Coda, Playback, Take One, Fuse, CineAction, Parachute, Vanguard
and the Eye. As a radio journalist, Marc is the regular reviewer for CFMX-FM
Classical 96.3 FM.
Marc was the resident programmer for the National Film Board's John Spotton
Cinema, 1991-1996. He is a past program director of the Grierson Documentary
Seminar and Festival and was the Senior International Programmer for Hot Docs
International Documentary Festival 1999-2003 and was a special events
programmer for the World Leaders Festival.
Marc founded Pages Books and Magazines at 256 Queen St. W. in Toronto in 1979,
and has since made his store into one of the best independent retail locations
in Canada and he currently presents the popular ?This is Not a Reading
Series.?

Robert Labossiere is the Managing Editor of YYZ Books, one of a Canada's most
respected art book publishers. Over 15 years, YYZ Books has published 20 titles
of theory and criticism focussed on contemporary art practices. Robert holds an
M.F.A. from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and an LL.B. from Osgoode
Hall Law School at York University and in 2000 was a resident in new media at
the Canadian Film Centre. He has over 15 years experience working in print
production and design, including managing a wide variety of national and
international projects during his tenure with Bruce Mau Design. He is also an
experienced arts administrator and advocate on behalf of the creative
community.

Denise Schon has worked in the book industry since 1979.  She owns and operates
a small book packaging company, which develops books from initial concept to
the finished product.
For six years (1989-1995) she was Vice-President and Publisher at Macmillan
Canada, then one of the largest Canadian-owned publishing companies.  While at
Macmillan Canada Denise Schon developed a strong non-fiction list, publishing
bestselling books in the areas of humour (The Red Green Book, Charlie
Farquharson), business, history, politics and sports.
She now teaches full time in the book and magazine publishing program at
Centennial College and for five years taught at Ryerson Polytechnic University
in the Book Publishing Section.
Previous to her time at Macmillan, she was Editorial Director of General and
Professional Books at McGraw-Hill Ryerson and Senior Editor at Doubleday
Canada.
Denise has volunteered for the United Way, sitting on the Leading Women advisory
group; for LEAF (Women?s Legal, Education, Action Fund); and for Parkdale
Project Read. She is currently chair of the Community Advisory Panel at the
Women?s Health Centre, St. Joseph?s Health Centre, and serves on the
publishing committee at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art.

Judy Wolfe is a dynamic and knowledgeable consultant whose direct approach to
arts management, governance and organizational structure development turns
anxiety into enthusiasm.
An expert in strategic planning, Judy assists executives and Boards to set their
vision, create a plan and implement it. Through Hot House, Judy provides
services in the areas of strategic, business and operational planning,
organizational effectiveness, alternative service delivery, private-public
partnerships, strategic communications and financial management.

Following more than fifteen years in public service, Judy became a full-time
management consultant to the not-for-profit and provincial government sectors
in 2001, when she joined Consulting Matrix and launched Hot House.
Judy has worked with several Ministries of the Ontario Government, including
Citizenship, Tourism and Recreation, Culture, Children?s Services,
Environment and Public Infrastructure Renewal;  with Hydro One and the Canadian
Securities Administrators, and with non-profit arts organizations such as the
Images Festival of Independent Film and Video, Trinity Square Video, the
Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre, the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers
of Toronto, Toronto Animated Image Society, Gallery TPW, YYZ Artists? Outlet
and Gallery 44.
