I am sorry if our communication was not clear. Becker Associates takes the management of AAO funds very seriously so we alone take full responsibility for error.

All overpayments as part of Becker Associates' error were left in AAO accounts, meaning that you have made a donation for the total miscalculated. The gift card from Becker Associates was to apologize for the error and to reimburse you for that donation.

There was not a penny of the refunds, processing time, postage or paper costs that were covered by AAO. The error, responsibility for the error, and all costs related to rectifying it were ours.

I am sorry if the the method of refund was inappropriate to some people given their views of the particular coffee chain. Please feel free to donate the cards as you wish.

Best regards,

Adam Becker

I think it would have been advisable to follow the Board's suggestion to solicit whether members would have preferred to have this money donated to the AAO, given the recent operating issues faced by the Association. I for one will be donating my Tim Hortons cards to the first homeless denizen of my Toronto borough of Parkdale who next solicits me for spare change, as I find Tim Hortons products to be completely unremarkable in every regard except for the extent to which their packaging manages to clutter the streets with unwanted litter. I would throw the cards in the garbage but that would be wasteful and the Tim Hortons does at least offer temporary shelter to certain less fortunate individuals at strange hours of the night, and I'm told warmth and sugar are some comfort against the elements. Although I am mildly reassured by your statements that such miscalculations will not occur in the future, I am concerned by the thoughtless gesture of atoning for your accounting error by promoting a massive corporate chain operation that poisons its customers with pseudo-food. Surely some other kind of measure could have been undertaken that involved the participation of those directly affected by the miscalculation: namely the individual membership of the AAO. If I had been consulted prior to being reimbursed I would have voted to donate the money to the AAO or accepted a credit towards future membership fees. Instead you have given my money to Tim Hortons, something I have actively avoided doing for years.
