The first Conference of ESHET will take place in Marseille (France) from 27
February
to 2 March, 1997. It will be organized by GREQAM, a research group
associated with
the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales and the Universities of=
Aix-
Marseille II & Aix-Marseille III, with the support of GDR-CNRS "Histoire de
la Pensee
et Methodologie Economiques".
The Conference Scientific Committee will include Jean ROSIO (local=
conference
organizer); Richard ARENA, Riccardo FAUCCI, Harald HAGEMANN, Heinz KURZ,
Luigi PASINETTI, Pier Luigi PORTA, Andrew SKINNER (all members of the=
Executive
Committee of ESHET), Pascal BRIDEL, Jean CARTELIER, Pierre DOCKES, Walter
ELTIS, Andre LAPIDUS, Cristina MARCUZZO, Steve RANKIN, Heinz RIETER,
Bertram
SCHEFOLD, Christian SCHMIDT, Ian STEEDMAN, Erich STREISSLER, Gianni VAGGI,
Jan VAN DAAL, Donald WINCH, Stefano ZAMAGNI (all members of the Council of
ESHET).
The Conference shall have a plenary session with invited lecturers; a=
thematic
session dedicated to "Keynesianism before and after Keynes" and a set of=
open
separate and parallel sessions.
SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS AND PAPERS
I - TO THE THEMATIC SESSION : "Keynesianism before and after Keynes"
The 1997 Program Committee organizer is Bertram SCHEFOLD. The Program
Committee includes also Luigi PASINETTI and Jean ROSIO. Other members may
be
coopted. The year 1996 - during which the ESHET Conference will be
prepared=
-
coincides with the sixtieth anniversary of the publication of Keynes'
General Theory.
It also coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of Keynes' death. These two
celebrations will give the opportunity of organizing a thematic session
dedicated to
Keynesianism before and after Keynes, which will include two parts :
1. PreKeynesian debates on the causes of the great depression and on policy
measures to reduce unemployment. Papers might refer to the origins and
precursors
of Keynesianism, focusing especially on early theoretical and policy
debates
before
Keynes, in the various European countries.
2. The General Theory and its reception. Papers should deal with the
reception of the
General Theory amongst European theorists and policy-advisers and
especially
with
its importance for the XXth century history of economic thought.

II - TO THE OPEN SESSIONS
The 1997 local organizer is Jean ROSIO. The Local Organizing Committee=
includes
also Alain BERAUD, Annie L. COT, Louis-Andre GERARD-VARET, Alain LEROUX,
Luigi PASINETTI, Bertram SCHEFOLD and Ramon TORTAJADA. Other members may
be coopted.
Participants wishing to submit papers are invited to send, before July 20,=
1996,
proposals (500 / 700 words) to

.. Acceptance will be notified to the authors by October 1st, 1996.
.. Full papers are requested by January 1st, 1997
Final papers should be typed clearly and cover no more than 20 sides of A4=
or
quarto. If possible, please send a version of the paper on disc, using
ASCII
or MS
WORD. If an accepted paper is not received by the due date of January 1st,=
1997,
then its authors are responsible for its production and distribution, and
at
their own
cost.

Economique (European Society for the History of Economic Thought - ESHET)

tiendra a Marseille (France) du 27 Fevrier au 2 Mars 1997, organise par le

PROPOSITIONS DE CONTRIBUTION A LA SESSION THEMATIQUE =ABLE KEYNESIANISME=

Bertram SHEFOLD est le responsable de l'organisation de la Session
Thematique au nom du Comite de Programme, dont font egalement partieLuigi
PASINETTI et Jean ROSIO. Le Comite de Programme peut etre elargi par
cooptation.L'annee de preparation du Colloque, 1996, est marquee par le
soixantieme
anniversaire de la publication de la Theorie Generale de J.M. Keynes et le
cinquantieme anniversaire de la mort de Keynes . Ces deux commemorations
justifient l'organisation d'une session specialisee sur le theme du
Keynesianisme avant et apres Keynes.
Elle comprendra deux parties :
1. LES DEBATS PRE-KEYNESIENS SUR LES CAUSES DE LA GRAND DEPRESSION ET
LES MESURES DE POLITIQUE ECONOMIQUE SUSCEPTIBLES DE REDUIRE LE NIVEAU DU CHOMAGE.
les contributions proposees pourraient traiter des origines et des precurseurs du
Keynesianisme,en mettant l'accent
sur les debats de theories et de politiques economiques qui ont eu lieu,
bien avant Keynes, dans differents pays d'Europes.
2. LA THEORIE GENERALE ET SON ACCUEIL.
Les contributions pourraient se proposer
d'etudier l'accueil de la Theorie Generale par les theoriciens et les
conseillers gouvernementaux europeens et, en particulier, de mesurer son importance
pour l'Histoire de la Pensee Economique du XXeme siecle.
Les Projets de Contribution ( 500 / 700 mots ) devront etre envoyes

d'Intervenants, certains Projets de Contributions pourront etre retenues
dans le cadre des Sessions Ouvertes.

20 pages (de format A4 ou quarto).
Dans la mesure du possible, veuillez envoyer un exemplaire du texte sur
disquette informatique, en ASCII ou format MS WORD.
Les auteurs des Contributions qui n'ont pu parvenir aux organisateurs du
Colloque a la date du 1er Janvier 1997, doivent prendre en charge, a leurs
frais, la reproduction et la distribution de leurs textes

LA LANGUE DE TRAVAIL EST L'ANGLAIS, mais les propositions de contribution
aux sessions ouvertes peuvent etre redigees dans la langue du pays
d'accueil
: le Francais. Dans les sessions, il est possible de presenter une
contribution dans une autre langue que l'Anglais si l'ensemble des
participants n'y sont pas opposes.
