I believe the FT article was written by the other Tom Mayer,

Chief Economist at Deutsche Bank:

I will miss Tom, a gentle man who helped me and Deirdre

more than he knew.

Subject: [SHOE] Tom Mayer (1927-2015) - his last published writing?

I presume this must have been the last of his published writings, an article in the Financial Times last week:
Carney is wrong about how to solve Europe's problems

Thomas ("Tom") Mayer was a distinguished monetary and macroeconomist, who in later years wrote extensively on economic methodology died last week.

Although he was not a historian of economics per se, he was widely known to members of the history community, and many will the feel the loss of a great scholar and a great human being as I do.
