Allegra Giovine (Department of History and Sociology of Science, University of Pennsylvania) will speak on Wednesday, 10 December at the HPPE seminar of LSE's Economic History Department. The title of her paper is: "The abnormal economy: doing economics “in the laboratory” of early 20th century Burma”. Please email me if you would like to receive a copy of the paper.

The seminar takes place from 1-2:30pm, in room CLM 2.04 and is open to all with an interest in the history of economics.

About Allegra:
Allegra is a doctoral candidate at the Department of History and Sociology of Science at the University of Pennsylvania. She is particularly interested in the history of economic and sociological study of development, growth, and modernization. Specific topics include the international history of development economics post-WWII (with special attention to East and Southeast Asia) and the intellectual history of social science scholarship on these topics in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Broader issues include the role of normative concepts in social science theory and the effect of research network structures on the emergence or suppression of alternate theoretical formulations.
