Making It Big is a one-day workshop that will provide mid-career
curators/producers and senior staff with the tools and checklists necessary to
organize successful large-scale and multi-venue exhibitions, both nationally
and internationally.

Participants will hear from experienced producers about factors relating to
exporting exhibitions internationally and bringing large-scale artworks into
Canada. A case study of the award winning soundtracks exhibitions will provide
participants with information about funding options, partnerships, curatorial
themes, and how to publicize exhibitions successfully.

Through panel discussions, participants will gain a better understanding of the
various aspects of organizing large-scale projects including; coordinating
events, setting realistic timeframes, and making it big.  This workshop is a
must for cultural workers and curators who wish to learn the necessary skills
to expand their repertoire to include successful international and large-scale
exhibitions.

Scott Berry is a Toronto-based filmmaker, curator and photographer and is the
Installations Coordinator at The Images Festival of Independent Film and Video.
 He was the Production Manager for the exhibition "Next Memory City" at the
Canadian pavillion for the 2002 Venice Biennale of Architecture. Scott loves
artist run culture this much: he's Vice-Chair of the Board at
LIFT, The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto; he coordinates of the
Parkdale Beauty Pageant Society, which presents the annual REHAB Film & Video
festival each June and he sits on the Programming Collective at Pleasure Dome.

Catherine Crowston has an MA in both Art History and Arts Administration from
York University, Toronto Canada. She is currently Director of Exhibitions and
Programs at The Edmonton Art Gallery, Edmonton, Alberta. She has curated in
spaces such as The Walter Phillips Gallery, The Art Gallery of Calgary, The Art
Gallery of York University and The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre. Catherine has
been teaching and curating since 1986 and also hosts a weekly Arts program on
CBC Radio Edmonton .

Natalie De Vito is the Administrative and Platform Director at Mercer Union and
an independent writer, curator and visual artist. She graduated from York
University, Toronto, in 1999 with a Master of Arts. She has worked with various
artist-initiated spaces such as A Space Gallery and The Power Plant Contemporary
Art Gallery, before joining Mercer Union as Co-Director in 2001. Her recent
independent projects include: Selling out and Buying In, BixArt Gallery,
Shanghai, China, (2002); the Oh Canada video Programme at Bankok Interantional
Film and Video Festival, naturalia and Hypnotic Suggestion 505: Jane and Louise
Wilson for A Space Gallery, Toronto (2001).

Cindy Hubert joined the Art Gallery of Ontario in April 2004 as Manager of
Exhibitions and Travelling Exhibitions. She has been working as an arts
professional for almost 20 years in Canada and England, as both curator and
manager of international contemporary visual arts projects. She has worked for
the Hayward and Waddington Galleries, The Arts Council Collection of Great
Britain and National Touring Exhibitions in London, managed and co-curated
exhibitions and events for the International Symposium on Electronic Arts held
in Liverpool and Manchester in 1998, and managed the first Liverpool Biennial
of Contemporary Art in 1999. Prior to joining the AGO, she was Director of
Gallery 96 in Stratford for 2 years. Cindy has an Hons. B.A. in Art History and
Criticism from the University of Western Ontario and an M.A. in Classical Art
and Literature from King's College, University of London, England.

Christy Thompson is the Exhibition Coordinator at The Power Plant.  In addition
to coordinating and managing the exhibitions, she has recently taken on the
gallery's touring exhibition program. She holds a BA from The University of
Guelph, a BFA from NSCAD and a MFA from the University of Western Ontario.
Prior to the The Power Plant, she was the Director of Programming at YYZ
Artists' Outlet. Thompson is also a Toronto-based artist who works in sculpture
and installation.
