Today LAC staff received an announcement (see below; web version available

that Hervé Déry has been appointed interim Librarian & Archivist of Canada.
A bit of google fu reveals that he is neither a librarian nor an archivist;
another career bureaucrat with little reason to be invested in the
institution or its mandate? Time will tell.

This *does *mean that Caron's official successor has probably not been
confirmed yet. This would be an excellent time for the community to keep up
our efforts to advise Minister Moore on what qualities Caron's permanent
replacement will need to succeed in the role.

interim basis the position of Deputy Head and Librarian and Archivist of
Canada until a new Deputy Head is appointed.
