Elgin County Archives
PRESERVATION ASSISTANT
Contract Position
The Elgin County Archives, a new and dynamic program, has a contract
position available for a Preservation Assistant. The program, made
possible by financial assistance from the Government of Canada through
the Library and Archives of Canada and the Canadian Council of Archives,
as well as the County of Elgin, entails the following:
* Development of a comprehensive disaster plan;
* Development of policies pertaining to care and handling, pest control
and exhibitions for an archival environment;
* Implementation of a holdings maintenance program for records of the
Elgin County Clerk's department, 1852 - 1990. This includes transfer of
records to acid-free enclosures, storage consolidation and basic
conservation measures.
Hours: 8:30am until 4:30pm
Salary: $16.34 per hour
Effective: September 2004 - December 2004
(14 week contract position, but part-time option
is available)
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have completed or be in
the process of completing post-secondary education as a conservator or
preservation technician, or equivalent training through a recognized
archival studies program. Previous conservation/preservation experience
and familiarity with database management systems (particularly MS Access
and Inmagic DB TextWorks) are definite assets.
