CBBAG Programmes of National and International Interest

The following programmes are all volunteer run. Many are undertaken
specifically because CBBAG is a national organization. A long list of
volunteers will follow in the next communication.

Education:
Home Study: this programme was developed specifically for bookbinding
students, both beginners and advanced, who are unable to take advantage of
the CBBAG core curriculum In-studio; available are Bookbinding I, II, and
III; in process and to be available before then end of 2004, is Repair and
Restoration, to be followed by Finishing in 2005; for details including
course outlines see the CBBAG website at www.cbbag.ca.  HS manager: Shelagh

Itinerant Teachers: a new programme to encourage the use of the CBBAG
instructor's for teaching across Canada and the U.S.; for a list of
instructors and the courses they offer, contact the CBBAG office at

In-Studio workshops and Intensives are attended by students from all
provinces, the United State and overseas. Workshop Registrar: Betty Elliott

Publications:
Newsletter: this excellent publication is produced quarterly with technical
and historical information, a calendar of events available, artist profiles,
and news items. Ediroes: Ruth-Carroll, Jerry Hodge
Membership List: annual, circulated to members only; lists all members with
addresses, e-mail addresses, etc. Membership Director: Ellen Spears
A Directory of Book Artists: circulated to members and to the general
public; lists only those who reply by filling in the provided application
form; lists address, subjects of specialization, teaching, collaborations;
produced at three year intervals.
A Directory of Educational Opportunities: lists both institutions and
individuals who teach book arts subjects; lists only those who respond to
the application provided; produced at three year intervals
Book Arts Suppliers: lists suppliers in all major book arts categories;
produced at three year intervals. Supplier list: Donia Conn
Exhibition Catalogues: produced to accompany all major exhibitions.
Occasional Major Publications Currently Available:
Bookbinding Materials and Techniques 1700-1920: fully illustrated, this book
describes each step in hand binding a book, the considerations that
influenced these techniques, and how all of these processes changed over the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

A Compendium of Valuable Newsletter Articles

Major Touring Exhibitions:
Art of the Book: a juried, members exhibition presented at five year
intervals, and circulated across Canada for three years after it's opening;
there have been four of these exhibitions to date (currently touring Canada:
The Art of the Book '03); the entire exhibition is available on the website

"Community" Exhibitions:
Millennium in a Box: consists of the work of 35 book artists in all fields
of the book arts; to date has been seen and used as a teaching tool at over
45 locations (libraries, museums, galleries, and schools) since 2000;
information and some images of this exhibition are available on the website
at www.cbbag.ca
"Community" Exhibitions in Process:
Bookbinding 1700-1920 Material & Tecniques: a historical exhibition charting
the development of hand bookbinding in the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries in Canada. Curator: Margaret Lock
A Book Arts Mosaic: a new book arts exhibition, presenting the work of book
artists from across Canada in an edition. Curator: Lise Melhorn-Boe

Video Loan Programme:
CBBAG owns a large library of videos which is available for loan to members
for cost of postage only; see the website at www.cbbag.ca for details.

Internet Communication:
Website: a major resource with many features including an Online Gallery of
book arts work, a translation of book arts terms from English to French, a
very large Links list, etc.; located at www.cbbag.ca.
BulletinBoard: time-sensitive material is listed, for both CBBAG, other
organizations, and CBBAG members; available through the CBBAG website at
www.cbbag.ca.
Web administrator: Susan Corrigan
E-networks: information of potential interest to members is circulated by
the regional e-mail networks; CBBAG members may send in information for
circulation. Network administrators: Mercedes Cirfi Walton, Nancy Miller,

Book Arts Fairs:
CBBAG sponsors a yearly book arts fair which is available to members for
display and sale of work or supplies at a very small table fee; the event is
open to the public at no charge.

External Events:
CBBAG participates yearly in many book related fairs to publicize the book
