Victoria University Library is pleased to announce the launch of A.P.
Coleman: Geologist, Explorer (1852 - 1939) - Science, Art & Discovery, a
thematic exploration of the life and work of one of Canada´s most
beloved scientists (http://library.vicu.utoronto.ca/apcoleman). A.P.
Coleman belonged to the first generation of geologists whose research
was based on in-the- field exploration and analysis. The Web site is a
geographic learning environment where visitors travel across Canada and
around the world to join Professor Coleman in the hunt for ancient
glaciers. An accomplished artist and photographer, the visual artifacts
left by Coleman make this a particularly lively research collection.

Historical items featured on the interactive website include diaries,
field notebooks, manuscripts, journal articles, pamphlets, period maps,
and correspondence; photographs, watercolors, and sketchbooks; late 19th
century - early 20th century scientific and surveying instruments; and
rocks and mineral samples. This virtual exhibit was created in
association with the Royal Ontario Museum and features items
drawn from the A.P. Coleman Archive, Victoria University Library
(Toronto), the A.P. Coleman Collection, Royal Ontario Museum Archives
and the Department of Natural History, Royal Ontario Museum Collections.

The project has received funding from the Canadian Council of Archives,
Archival Community Digitization Project.

Questions concerning the A.P. Coleman Exhibition should be addressed to
