This subject is extensively explored, using newly available archival
materials at Duke (the Karl Menger Papers), by Robert Leonard in his
paper "Logic and the Jackboot: Mathematical and Social Order in Karl
Menger's Vienna, 1925-1938". The paper was given at the Veblen
Society Meetings in Chicago last month, and will be presented in the
regular HOPE Workshop at Duke on 10/4/96. Copies might be available
from the author at the University of Quebec at Montreal.
