Conference on
John Stuart Mill and the French Thought of his Time
Philosophy, Politics, Economics
Maison francaise d'Oxford, 6-9 December 1995

The Maison francaise d'Oxford and the Ecole Normale Superieure de
Fontenay-Saint-Cloud (France) are organizing a conference in
Oxford (6-9 December 1995) on "John Stuart Mill and the French
Thought of his Time: Philosophy, Politics, Economics." This
conference aims to give European scholars the opportunity to
discuss Mill's intense exchanges with French thinkers of the
early nineteenth century, and to consider the consequences of
these exchanges on Mill's thought as well as his influence on
continental thought.

The conference will focus on the many interests Mill found in
French thought: moral philosophy, political science, economics,
as well as epistemology, history, logic and even literary
criticism.

Those who wish to contribute to this conference should send an
abstract of their paper (about two pages) to the organizers at
one of the following addresses before 30 June 1995:
