CALL FOR PAPERS -- HOPOS Conference 
 
FIRST HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE CONFERENCE 
Hotel Roanoke, Roanoke, Virginia 
April 19-21 1996 
 
        The History of Philosophy of Science Working Group will hold its 
first conference in cooperation with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and 
State University on April 19-21 1996.  The conference will be open to work 
from all approaches in science studies that focus upon the history of 
philosophy of science.  Submissions of abstracts of papers of approximately 
30 minutes' reading length, and of full panels of three to four papers will 
be considered for the program.  Individuals interested in providing 
comments on submitted papers should also contact the program committee 
chair. 
        A selection of conference papers will be published as a special 
issue of the journal _Perspectives on Science_. 
 
Guidelines for Submissions: 
        Panel proposals should include one panel abstract including names 
and contact addresses of all participants, and abstracts of three to four 
papers of 250 words.  Panel proposals should arrive at the office of the 
program committee chair by 1 November 1995.  Notification of acceptance of 
submissions will be provided by 1 December. 
        Abstracts of individual paper submissions should be between 250 and 
500 words in length, and arrive at the office of the program committee 
chair by 1 November 1995. All submissions will be acknowledged by 1 
December, notification of acceptance of submissions will be given by 1 
February 1996 at the latest. 
        Preferred format for all submissions is plain ASCII text submitted 
by electronic mail to [log in to unmask] with "HOPOS Submission" in the 
subject line of the email.  Other submissions should include three paper 
copies and one copy on 3.25" DOS or Macintosh disk, if possible, to:

                HOPOS 
The History of Philosophy of Science Working Group 
 
HOPOS is an informal, international working group of scholars who 
share an interest in promoting serious, scholarly research on the 
history of the philosophy of science and related topics in the 
history of the natural and social sciences, logic, philosophy, 
and mathematics.  We interpret this statement of shared interest 
broadly, meaning to include all historical periods and diverse 
methodologies.  We aim to promote historical work in a variety of 
ways, including the sponsorship of meetings and conference 
sessions, the publication of special issues of journals, the 
dissemination of information about libraries, archives and 
collections, and, as more ambitious projects become feasible, the 
preparation of bibliographies and finding guides. 
 
Membership in HOPOS is open to all;
