MSH Management Sciences for Health Paul Alexander Memorial Fellowship
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Purpose:  To provide an international public health opportunity in a
developing country for a young person of promise who would benefit
from
direct experience in making a career choice.

Award:  The award is a travel fellowship, which is usually used to
support work with an MSH international public health project for at
least two months.  Awards are sometimes given to individuals who have
developed independent plans.

Eligibility:  Applicants must have received a graduate degree within
the past two years, or be expecting to receive a graduate degree
within
two years after the award travel.

Timeline:  The deadline for receipt of completed applications is
December 30, for the award to be made for the following year.
Applications will be reviewed and acknowledged in January, with
finalists notified by the end of February.  The award notification
will
be made by the end of March.

Lead Trainer: Maternal and Child Health Project, Yunnan Province,
China

As Canadian Executing Agency for a bilateral initiative with China,
funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, the
University
of Ottawa is seeking a dynamic health professional for a two-year
contract position as lead trainer with the Yunnan Maternal and Child
Health Project.  The goal of the project is to improve the quality of
village life and to promote the development of productivity and social

prosperity in poor ethnic minority counties in Yunnan Province.

Based in Kunming and Lijiang, you will prepare core groups of
provincial
and county trainers to design, implement and evaluate community-based
educational programming and use participatory, experiential teaching
methods with maternal and child health grassroots workers.

Basic requirements:
you are a health professional with a master’s or doctoral degree and
at
least ten years of community experience in maternal and child health
care;
you have experience in primary health care program design and delivery

with populations in third-world countries or in remote underserved
areas;
you have excellent leadership and administrative skills including
curriculum design, implementation and evaluation, and are familiar
with
experiential and participatory teaching methodologies;
you demonstrate strong English communication skills (oral and written)

and a good working knowledge of spoken and written Mandarin Chinese.

Project Coordinator: China Projects, Faculty of Health

We are seeking a part-time project coordinator to provide
administrative
support to tow initiatives funded by the Canadian International
Development Agency: i) an institutional linkage project between
Schools
of Nursing at the University of Ottawa and Tianjin Medical University
targets baccalaureate, associate degree and continuing education for
nurses in Tianjin Municipality and ii) the Yunnan Maternal and Child
Health Project aims to improve the quality of village life and to
promote the
development of productivity and social prosperity in poor, ethnic
minority countries in Yunnan Province.

Based at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Health Sciences and
reporting to the Project Director, you will provide day-to-day
coordination of project activities.  As the ideal candidate you will
possess the following basic requirements:

diploma or baccalaureate prepared with at least 5 years project
administration experience in education or health fields; able to work
alone and as part of a team and strong organizational ability;
word processing computer skills;  demonstrated administrative skills
and strong oral and written communication skills effectively applied
in
cross-cultural situations; fluency in oral and written English
requires;
working knowledge of oral and written Mandarin Chinese a definite
asset.

This is a contract position for an initial period of one year.  The
position is available immediately subject to final budgetary approval.

Minimum Requirements:
Education:  University degree in one of the social sciences
with specialized training in education.
Experience:  Two years of progressively more responsible experience
which includes responsibilities for the design and conduct of training

activities for strengthening health and vital registration systems, as

well as participation in health situation analyses and/or the
administration of related technical cooperation projects.
Languages: Very good knowledge of English with a working knowledge of
Spanish.
