Be careful when you say that Sandy didn't have a slave role in _A
Connecticut Yankee_. REmember that her role to the protagonist was as a
guide, bound by the tradition of her culture to definite regulations. By
having the protagonist marry her, Mark Twain may have been trying to make a
point. Also, Twain was incredibly interested in the language of people, and
Sandy babbled forever. Perhaps Twain was formatting slave language to Old
English. Just some thoughts.
