Last night President Clinton spent a major portion of his State of the
Union address promising to improve education. I am skeptical of
Clinton because of the damage his appointees did here in Tempe. The US
Department of Education ordered a full-scale investigation because the
public high schools were teaching The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
(See the Arizona Republic, July 3, 1996, available on America Online.)

It took six months of litigation before US District Court Judge Stephen
McNamee ruled that the charges were baseless and dismissed the case.
