I consider myself an historian of economic thought. I think of
myself as one specialized in the general field of history called
`intellectual history'. I could not do what needs to be done in this
field without a long and rigorous training in economic theory, of
different kinds.

Economic theorists, in times of Kuhnian scientific revolutions,
when theory is in tatters, turn to elements of the history of thought
to put the pieces back together again.
