================= HES POSTING =================

Jonathon,

An application to the University of Connecticut which discussed history
of thought and an interest in cross-disciplinary work would have gotten
your immediate attention. We regularly list gradaute courses in other
departments (history, political science, sociology, statistics, geography)
which may interest our students; we are disappointed more don't take
advantage of the opportunity to gain an understanding of other disciplines
and draw on them for their own research and teaching.

But I recognize that we have been--for many years now--swimming against
the tide. But when we started swimming that way with more determination,
we actually did better, as I explained earlier, in both attracting strong
students and placing our doctorates. Some maybe all is not lost.
