I agree with Anthony Brewer. What the heck is Whig history anyway? On 
the other hand, I am not certain that I understand the dichotomy between 
external and internal history either. Is the first about people and the 
second about ideas? Is it possible to write a history of people without 
making judgments about the "cogency" of their ideas?
