The title of Baetzhold's book is Mark Twain and John Bull, and he traces
the evolution of Twain's intentions concerning the story of Arthur and his
court.  See also the chapter on A Connecticut Yankee in my book Mark Twain,
Culture and Gender (U of Georgia Press, 1994).
