This is to follow up on Elizabeth Zeria's posting of information about
the H-Net lists for historians.  I have been on H-SHGAPE (Gilded Age and
Progressive Era) since it began late last spring and find it the most
valuable list I read.  Because it is moderated, there are almost no
erroneous postings, and debate can be spirited without degenerating into
flames.  The moderators also read other H-NET lists and post a weekly
digest of not-directly-related items that tend to be pretty useful
anyway.  I believe the list is archived, but I've not yet had occasion to
search for and retrieve logs.

One feature of the list is the sharing of course syllabi.  As a graduate
student working on a dissertation, I find these syllabi to be a rich
source of background material.  (By the way, _The Gilded Age_ and _The
Rise of Silas Lapham_ show up in syllabi occasionally.)   Another feature of
the list--updates and info sharing about use of new technology--has been
very helpful to me in my life as a distance learning coordinator.  In short,
I highly recommend H-SHGAPE to members of the Mark Twain Forum.
