Just because Marx formulated the law thusly does not mean that he was
the first to do so. I don't have a copy of it at hand, but I am fairly
certain that the phrase "Say's Law" and the accompanying phrase
identifying it with "supply creates its own demand" or something very
close to that appeared in John Stuart Mill's _Principles of Political
Economy_, prior to Marx (who commented on Mill's discussion in
Vol. III of _Capital_). Mill himself cited his father, James Mill,
although I have never read any of his works. Thus, I would tend to
agree with the earlier speculation by someone that this formulation was
probably originally due to James Mill.
