Although Twain's not in The Big Lebowski, the Cohen Brothers have said that the Stranger (played by Sam Elliot) was in part inspired by the "old earthiness of a Mark Twain."

love the scene in Pleasantville (not listed here) where the pages of HF

(I should be preparing syllabi right now but it's hard, friends; it's very
hard . . . . )
