First, does anyone have ANY info regarding Twain's last in-person encounter
with his brother Orion? Or even simply when they were last known to have
been together?
Second, I thought someone on this forum might want to be informed there are
two special Mark Twain items up for grabs this week at Sotheby's.
Wednesday, November 30th (Mark Twain's birthday, by coincidence) at 2pm in
New York City the following is to be auctioned:
1. An original poem penned to his sister-in-law Mollie (in her autograph
album, which contains many other entries, including one by her husband Orion
Clemens, Mark Twain's brother). A remarkable survival from 1856.
2. The absolute earliest possible issue of Huckleberry Finn-- the
publisher's pre-publication gift copy issued Christmas 1884. This is one of
only a few "Christmas copies" known to exist, & is in near fine all original
condition.
For more details the website is www.sothebys.com or feel free to contact
me.
Cordially,
Bob
