In "An Open Letter to Com. Vanderbilt" (March, 1869), Twain opined that C.V. would live another ten years at most. He was right; Vanderbilt died in 1877.
Did Vanderbilt respond to Twain's mild criticism in that open letter?
Did Twain attend the funeral?
