Twain's birth-home in the metropolis of Florida, Missouri, displays
a handwritten page of _The Adventures of Tom Sawyer_. Twain must have had
someone type a clean copy of this text before sending it to the publisher.
Or maybe he remembered the wrong book. Either way, I don't think he
actually "wrote" anything on the typewriter like we did back in the day of
the IBM Selectric when our research paper was due in an hour and we hadn't
started.
As with nearly any journalist or educator, I have no proof of any
of this--it's just an opinion. So there it is.
