No, this is not a recently discovered manuscript--rather, a reference to
two Mark Twain items appearing in recent publications:

** _The Philadelphia Inquirer_, January 18, 1998, Books Section. "The
Argument for Removing Huck Finn from the Bookshelf." Book review by Daniel
T. O'Hara, professor of English at Temple University, of _Huckleberry Finn
as Idol and Target: The Functions of Criticism in Our Time," by Jonathan
Arac, University of Wisconsin Press. O'Hara presents Arac's argument for
removal, but has reservations about Arac's book: "Like love, the difficult
art of creating or appreciating imaginative pleasure submits to no agenda
or program, however well-intentioned."

** _Lost Treasure_ magazine, March 1998. "California: Mark Twain's
Treasure Tale." Article by Anthony J. Pallante highlights legendary sites
of lost treasure in the state. The first one featured is the "Lost Cement
Mine" of _Roughing It_. The writer relates the historical background,
including Mark Twain's interest, and concludes, "After all the years and
all the legends, the mystery of the Lost Cement mine remains unsolved."

Mary Leah Christmas
