Hi,

I don't know what happened to the student he put through Yale (it
would be wonderful if true that he, inturn, then helped our first
black and one of our greatest Supreme Court Justices) but I do want to
thank everyone for chipping in. You led me back to my source for both
facts; Justin Kaplan's bio (p254, in case anyone is interested) and
his source was indeed Howells.
