A correspondent has written challenging Twain's quotation from
Herodotus that appears in "A Horse's Tale":

"Herodotus says, "Very few things happen at the right time,
and the rest do not happen at all: The conscientious
historian will correct these defects."
- P. 143 _The Mysterious Stranger, Etc._, 1922 edition,
Acknowledgments for "A Horse's Tale."

In checking _Mark Twain's Library: A Reconstruction_,
mention is made that Twain used a "fictitious" quote from
Herodotus for Appendix A of _A Tramp Abroad_.

Is it possible that Twain also constructed a "fictitious"
Herodotus quote for "A Horse's Tale"?
