Jim,
I don't know Jim. I'm don't see that Mark Twain worried himself so
much about "imperialism" as to unbalance himself. Nor do I think that
his personal tragedies drove him to a morbid state either. Remember,
Jim, this was a man who well past the age of seventy relished playing
billiards late into the night and spent a good deal of time collecting
little girls for surrogate grandchildren. Do not mistake a pen warmed up
in hell for the ravings of a grieving, broken-down old man pushed over
the edge by the forces of evil.
