ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST
One-Year Contract Position

The Elgin County Archives, a new and dynamic program, has an exciting
one-year contract position available for an Assistant Archivist.
Working under the general supervision of the Manager of Archives, the
successful candidate must be a highly skilled professional who will play
an important role in the on-going development and growth of the
archives.  Duties include the following:

  Appraisal, arrangement, description and preservation management
activities on a backlog of current collections;
  Appraisal and inventory work in local municipal offices for the
purpose of facilitating transfers to the archives;
  Reference services to the public (as required);
  Community outreach and public awareness activities.

Date of Posting:                March 7, 2005

Hours:                  8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Salary:                 $20.15 - $24.52 per hour

Effective:                      April 18, 2005 - April 14, 2006
(Permanent status subject to review upon budgetary approval and
successful completion of contract.)

Qualifications:         The successful candidate will have completed
post-secondary education in archival studies or related discipline.
Master's degree in archival studies preferred.  Minimum of one year,
preferably three years archival experience, ideally in a municipal
setting.  Excellent communication and writing skills required, along
with familiarity of database systems (experience with Inmagic DB
Textworks an asset).  Candidates must have a valid driver's license and
will require use of a personal vehicle.
