Good afternoon all,

I agree completely, Suzanne. As individuals we need to be more active and
vocal in our support of CCA.

I can only speak for myself, but sometimes things are just so busy between
work and home that it is all I can do to get the CCA, LAC, and other reports
read -- let alone find time to comment on them publicly. So, thank you to
those of you who have been posting your opinions on these matters because
even if they are not specifically commented on, they are read and
appreciated. I am finding that one of the best ways to stay informed,
besides reading the recent reports, is to take time to discuss the issues
presented in recent months with the people that represent my institution at
CCA. By doing this I am learning more about the history of the issues at
hand. For those of us who are still relatively new to the archival
profession,

That being said, I'd like to make a suggestion or two:

1. For those of you who have been Archivists for quite some time and who
have been involved at various levels in our profession & our associations,
take the time to initiate discussions with newer archivists about your
opinions and experiences regarding the development of the amazing archival
network that we have here in Canada. Whether this is done informally or as
staff meetings/brown-bag lunches, it is a worthy exercise to consider.

2. For those of you who have not been Archivists for very long, take the
time to ask questions of those Archivists that you know and respect. Get
involved. Read the posted reports. Learn the history behind the decisions
that are being made and the reports that are being written. Taking the time
to learn this history is crucial to our informed participation at local,
provincial, and national levels. So take the time to do this now before the
Archivists that have been working to further develop Archives in Canada over
the last 30 years retire and move to some wonderfully warm location where
they can bask in the sun. That way they can leave behind worries about
their life's work because they can rest assured that we will do our best to
continue that work responsibly. (Archivists do get to retire, right?)

Anyhoo, that's it. Those are my suggestions -- take them or leave them but
either way, please support the CCA!

Have a lovely weekend!

Sincerely,
Denise Jones

Greetings colleagues...

Speaking for myself, I would like to publicly thank the CCA for its
recent series of newsletters. I think that at a time when the CCA needs
all of us to speak up and support its efforts on our collective
behalf(s?), these provide much useful information and summaries for
letter-writing opportunities.

I have come to believe that while the CCA is there to represent the
interests of our archival institutions, its successes have such a direct
impact on individual archivists, particularly at smaller institutions,
that we would do well to support the CCA as individual archivists
ourselves. Please keep the regular updates coming.

Best wishes to all,
Suzanne Dubeau
