Archivist

York University Libraries invite applications for the position of
Archivist from June 1, 2000 to June 30, 2001. Responsibilities include
reference and research services in Archives and Special Collections and
the appraisal, accessioning, arrangement, description and control of
archival records.

York University is the third largest university in Canada serving a
population of approximately 50,000 students from diverse cultures. York
University Archives and Special Collections hold 610 meters of
university records; over 1500 meters of private and institutional papers
and an extensive collection of non-textual materials. Special
Collections has over 20,000 volumes of published Canadiana, including
Canadian pamphlets.

Qualifications

A graduate library science/information studies degree with archival
concentration accredited by the ALA, or a Masters degree in Archival
Studies, or a Masters degree in a related field with archival
concentration. Demonstrated experience in processing and providing
access to archival and special collections. Working knowledge of Rules
for Archival Description (RAD). Knowledge of  records/information
management, and of Encoded Archival Description (EAD) is an asset.
Effective oral and written communication skills, ability to maintain
effective working relationship with University officers, colleagues and
donors.

York University is implementing a policy of employment equity including

immigration requirements, this advertisement is directed to Canadian
citizens or permanent residents of Canada. This is a thirteen month
contractually limited position to be filled at the Adjunct Archivist
level and is appropriate for a librarian/archivist with up to two years
experience. This position is included in the York Faculty Association
bargaining unit.  The anticipated salary level is high 40s.
