A challenging opportunity is available at the Archives of Ontario to lead
the implementation of a new Preservation Strategy at the Archives.  You
will: provide expertise and leadership in all aspects of preservation
planning including disaster recovery and security and foster a preservation
culture throughout the institution; be involved with developing and
conducting preservation/conservation training for Archives staff; work
pro-actively with staff to solve long term preservation issues and develop
policies and procedures and standards for innovative, cost effective and
realistic levels of treatments and processes to preserve the Collections,
including condition assessments and exhibit loans.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Understanding of historical techniques of fabrication,
chemical, and physical properties of archival materials; demonstrated
knowledge of the latest conservation principles, practices and procedures in
order to determine preservation needs for a variety of archival material;
knowledge of preservation planning, including disaster planning and recovery
practices and techniques to be able to advise and assist the Archives,
government ministries, agencies, the archival community etc., in disaster
contingency planning and recovery operations; knowledge of, preservation
theory and practices, and current archival practices and procedures to
effectively integrate preservation with other core functions of the Archives
and make recommendations for relevant policies and procedures; experience in
developing course content and conducting preservation/conservation training
and education; experience in the use of technical equipment, the operation
of personal computers, specialized software programs and databases commonly
found in conservation laboratories; good interpersonal, oral and written
communication skills; knowledge of the Professional Code of Ethics as set by
the Canadian Association for Conservation of Cultural Property.
