The Northeast Document Conservation Centre (NEDCC) recently made available a
wonderful new publication for free, online at www.nedcc.org. It is
Assessing Preservation Needs: A Self-Survey Guide.
The guide is designed to help small to medium-sized institutions with
limited preservation experience and budgets design a preservation program.
The guide takes you through all the aspects of a global preservation
assessment of your building, policies and practises, fire protection and
security, storage methods, etc.. It includes several questionnaire type
worksheets as PDF files you can print and use in conducting your survey.
You can also order a hard copy of the Guide for $15.00 (US$) including
shipping from the NEDCC.
In partnership with NEDCC, Amigos Library Services Inc. of Dallas Texas has
produced a 30-minute video titled "The Preservation Survey: A First Step in
Saving Your Collections". The video addresses the themes of the new NEDCC
publication on assessments. Ordering information for the video can be found
at Amigos' website www.amigos.org.
