The Professional Learning Centre
Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto
presents a one-day workshop

PERSONAL ETHICS AND THE ETHICAL ORGANIZATION

Date: Friday, March 19, 2004,  9 am - 4 pm
Location: 140 St. George Street, Toronto
Instructors: Maureen Cubberley & Stan Skrzeszewski
Fee: $180

Ours is a generation which has sacrificed quality of life to job
priorities - to efficiency, productivity and a fixation on the bottom-
line. A person who adopts a clear ethical stance accepts
responsibility for human happiness and does not sacrifice for the
sake of profit or the bottom line. We need to restore joy, a sense of
contentment and fulfillment to our job lives based on positive
values. We need to seek balance between a business approach and a
more human approach. Ethical people work to ensure that organizations
prosper, pursue profit and increase social value and help to build a
better society and strengthen community. Is this a naïve dream? This
workshop will show how it can be done.

The workshop is based on a Socratic/philosophical approach. This
means an emphasis on facilitation, discussion, questioning,
interaction, and reflection. Participants will be asked to complete a
pre-workshop 'Meditation and Survey'. The survey is a corporate
ethical values audit. Complete anonymity and confidentiality is
guaranteed for all information submitted. The workshop will cover
the following topics:

* What are Ethical Values?
* Defining your Personal Ethic
* Identifying Corporate Values (Conducting a Values Audit)
* Ethical Decision-Making Strategies
* Creating Ethical Organizational Structures and Processes
* Your 'Art of Living Well' Agenda

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Of value to any information professional who is struggling to balance
personal needs with organizational demands.

THE INSTRUCTORS Maureen Cubberley and Stan Skrzeszewski are partners
at ASM Advanced Strategic Management Consultants and specialize in
bringing people and information technology together to design and
implement new organizational and community structures. ASM excels at
helping organizations and communities to create new visions and
develop people-based and technology-based strategies that ensure
success.
