Although best known for his monumental WAR AND PEACE, Tolstoy
demonstrated his economic knowledge in a small volume entitled SOCIAL
EVILS AND THEIR REMEDY, Methuen & Co., Ltd, London, 2nd ed, 1917.

Tolstoy was particularly concerned with the "land question." This led him
to Henry George's analysis in PROGRESS AND POVERTY, 1879. His admiration
for George was expressed in the following quotation;

..."But the most just and practicable scheme is, in my opinion, that of
Henry George, known as the Single-Tax System."
