The Archives Association of Ontario (AAO) is seeking an energetic,
experienced and knowledgeable individual for the position of full-time
Archives Advisor.  The Archives Advisor Program is administered by the
AAO and is funded by the Archives of Ontario through the Government of
Ontario’s Management Board Secretariat and the Canadian Council of
Archives within the National Archives of Canada.  The Advisor  Program
has been in existence since 1991.

DUTIES:     Reporting directly to the Director of Advisory Services for
the Archives Association of Ontario, the Archives Advisor is responsible
for providing professional and technical advice and assistance to
archival institutions in Ontario.  The Advisor provides advice for
written and oral enquiries and through on-site visits.  The Advisor is
also responsible for providing regular written follow-up reports after
the visits; providing referrals to the AAO’s Preservation Consultant;
supports the goals of the AAO’s ARCHEION project in partnership with the
ARCHEION Coordinator; arranging speaking engagements with community
groups and other heritage organizations; organizing meetings and group
consultations for discussion or to provide advice on archival issues;
and acting as a clearinghouse for information concerning archives in
Ontario.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The candidate will preferably have a graduate degree in
archival studies; a minimum of five years experience in more than one
archival setting is a definite asset; a knowledge of archival
management, budgets, knowledge of basic preservation standards and
practices (including facility planning) and records management.  Other
requirements include a familiarity with the following: Ontario’s
archival system; legislation applicable to archival records; management
of various media formats; and descriptive standards, especially Rules
for Archival Description.    Technical skills in word processing,
presentations, report writing and the Internet are also necessary.  A
valid driver’s license and vehicle are required.  The candidate must be
outgoing, able to listen, sympathetic, able to spend frequent periods
away on the job and the ability to be flexible due to rapid changes.
Fluency in English and French are an asset.

TERMS:  The successful candidate will be retained by the AAO on an
annual basis as the Advisor Program is contingent on the availability of
grant funding. The annual salary range for this position is
$46,000-$53,000.  Some weekend and irregular hours may be required.
