Dear Colleagues, today's London Free Press has an editorial in support of MPP Caroline DiCocco's Private Member's Bill 95, the "Ethics and Transparency in Public Matters Act". For those of you who work in health, educational and municipal archives, I suggest you monitor the progress of this bill as it could have positive implications for the development of publicly accountable archival and records management programmes in these sectors. I am of the personal opinion (my views only, not my employer's) that DiCocco's bill is an excellent piece of legislation in principle and will do more to promote public accountability among "public" institutions than the government's proposed legislation on the same issue. DiCocco's bill has passed second reading and has a decent chance of passing. I encourage you to share your views and possible support of this with your MPP. The editorial can be viewed on-line at: http://www.canoe.ca/LondonOpinions/home.html.
