===================== HES POSTING ===================

[NOTE: For those interested in Landes' book, there is a raging debate
about it on [log in to unmask] these days! -- RBE]

I am reading Landes' new book on the poverty and wealth of nations. I
would take a look at the sections of the book in which he discusses the
European settlements in the new world and the various references to the
enormous literature and the native Indians, their treatment, and some
references to culture, etc.
