Dear HES-ers,

I came across this quote by Edgeworth: =22the equations of exchange enable =
us at best to determine the final position, not the steps by which it is =
reached.=22 This was cited in a letter (R. L. Hall to Roy Harrod, 17 Feb. =
1934), so the wording might actually not be 100% accurate.

Does anyone know where this quote (or something quite similar to it) comes =
from?

Thank you.
Daniele Besomi
