In Worldy Philosophers (6th Ed. 1986), Heilbroner comments on Smith's
absentmindedness (p.45), eccentricity (p.47), poor French (pp.48-49) and
observes "All his life Smith was troubled with a nervous affliction; his
head shook, and he had an odd and stumbling manner of speech (p.45)." No
mention of the brogue, but certainly a profile which might have been so
troubled. Maybe Heilbroner's sources reveal more.
