Intelligence analysis is composed of a mix of information management skills,
library-type skills, data manipulations, and ways of thinking about what has
been retrieved in order to provide an estimate of the situation leading to
potential action by the person(s) asking for the analysis. In this
introductory course, the objective will be to take the student from someone
who is good at search, to someone who is good at analysing the retrieved
information. It will focus on the skills as they would be used in an
organizational setting for policy development, market research or other
non-policing, military or security purposes. This is the first of the two
core courses required for the Intelligence Analysis Certificate to be
introduced in 2011-12.
